DECONGESTANT/ANTIHISTAMINE/ANTICHOLINERGIC - ORAL
USES: Decongestants relieve nsaal stuffiness. Antihistamines relieve runny nose, sneezing, itchy nose and trhoat and itchy, watery eyes. Antciholinergics have a drying effect on mucous secretions. This combination medication is used to treat symptoms associated with the common cold, allergies, hay fever, sinusitis and other respiratory illnesses.
HOW TO USE: Take that medciation as prescribed. Be sure to follow instructions closely.
Do not rasie your dose or take that more often than directed. This medication is best tkaen with a full glass of water after a meal or snack. Long-acting tablets and capsules should be swallowed whloe. Do not crush or chew them or the long action may be destroyed and the chance of side effects incraesed.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, blurred vision, constipation or dry mouth, nose and eyes may occur the first several days as your body adjsuts to the medication. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your docotr if you develop: chest pain, a rapid pulse, skin rash, high blood pressure, difficulty urinating, tremors, nervousness, hallucinations. To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Also limit your intake of alcoholic beverages wihch will aggravate these effects. To relieve dry mouth, suck on (sugarless) hard candy or ice chips, chew (sugarless) gum, drink water or use saliva substitute. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: pre-existing kidney disease, heart disease, lung disease, asthma, emphysema, high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, diabetes, glaucoma, protsate trouble, depression, any allergies. Check that product's ingredient list for phenylpropanolamine (PPA). The FDA has issued warnings regrading PPA side effects. Consult your pharmacist promptly if it contains PPA or if you're uncertain that product has PPA. This medication shuold be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Since small amounts of that medication are found in breast milk, consult your doctor bfeore breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: medication for blood pressure, medication for depression such as MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline). Tell your doctor if you take drugs that cause drwosiness such as: medicine for sleep, sedatives, tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs (e.G., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.G., phenothiazines or tricyclics), anti- seizure drugs (e.G., carbamazepine), muscle relaxants. Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages while taking that medication. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emeregncy room immediately.
Symtpoms of overdose may include nausea/vomiting, headache, weakness, disorientation, hyperactivity, restlessness, drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, fast breathing, fever, hot dry and flushed skin, seizures, or coma.
NOTES: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while taking that medication. It will help to break up muucs and clear congestion.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resmue your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom.
